Title III Legal Assistance Program

The Big Sandy Area Development District provides free legal assistance, consultation and representation to the senior citizens in the Big Sandy District through the Title III Legal Assistance Program. The program serves residents for specific types of cases. The program has no income or resource eligibility requirements and is offered through the senior citizen centers in the district.

The program offers assistance with legal problems involving:

  • Bankruptcy
  • Insurance
  • Black Lung
  • Medicaid
  • Consumer Protection
  • Medical Assistance
  • Dissolution of marriage
  • Medicare
  • Employment
  • Social Security
  • Food Stamps
  • SSI
  • Guardianship
  • Unfair Sales
  • Health
  • Veterans Benefits
  • Home/Real Property
  • Wills & Estates
  • Housing
  • Workers Compensation

The program will target people who are sixty years or older that are in need of legal assistance. For those clients that are home bound or in a nursing home, they will provide services either by phone or collateral contacts, such as case managers, ombudsman, or guardians. If the program is unable to serve an individual, they will be referred to a private attorney.
