Big Sandy Area Development District staff are available to assist local governments in revising their comprehensive plans.  Our staff have experience working with cities in the Big Sandy region in preparing their plans as well as their updates.  That process has included facilitating public meetings for the purpose of gathering the necessary data for plan development and/or revision, providing asset mapping, and an area assessment that will allow the local government and community leaders to make important decisions concerning the future of the community.  In addition, an action plan that provides a timeline for completion of the projects identified by the community as priorities is typically included.

Kentucky Statutes require cities to amend or readopt their comprehensive plans at least once every five (5) years.  KRS 100.187 and 100.197 describe the contents of a comprehensive plan and the adoption of the plan elements.  Furthermore, the existence of an up-to-date comprehensive plan is often essential to a community’s successful pursuit of grant funding.
