Big Sandy Area Water Management Council is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan group having as its primary concern the development of the County Water Supply plans, as well as maintenance and update of the plans, planning, development and administration of water management area located within the Big Sandy Area Development District pursuant to Senate Bill 409 and applicable sections of Kentucky Revised Statue 151 and 224A.

The Water Management Council meets quarterly in the Big Sandy Area Development District large conference room. The dates for 2016 are as follows:

The Big Sandy Area Development District Water Planner performs support services for the area water management planning council and serves as the long-range planning representative and assists individual utilities with project planning and development activities.  The water management coordinator creates new project profiles and updates existing profiles in the water resource information system upon approval from the area water management planning council.  The district water planner also performs services related to the verification and updating of the Water Resource Information system (WRIS) including the verification of current data for all water and wastewater infrastructure that has been constructed within the district.

The district has an area water management council that meets quarterly to approve new projects and to discuss existing projects within the district.  This council is made up of each utility within the Big Sandy Area Development District and local elected officials.  Their input is essential to the continued planning and development of the region in order to meet current and future utility needs.
